Traits

Ghost (+Ghost) (Non-Passable)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Guess who's back? Overrides base coat, blood color, and death.

Ghost is classed as Non-Passable, but is passable in breeding! (See below.) It is obtained via the Eternal Life Gem item.

As of Phoenix Update 10, Ghosts are breedable to non-Ghosts! Ghost (+Ghost) has a common pass rate - it's difficult for ghosts to create the living!
While Ghost is passable at a common rate, its main method of being obtained is considered the Eternal Life Gem, and so it's listed under Non-Passable mutations. It cannot be added with geno-editing items other than the Eternal Life Gem, and cannot be removed from a Rixixi.

Ghost must do the following:
  • Must cause the Rixixi to be translucent - literally translucent, lower the opacity of the base!
  • Markings and mutations appear as usual, with the exception of Dullahan (see below: Examples), Translucent/Partial Translucence (see below: "Ghost can optionally do the following"), and Color Muts (can optionally override any of them)
  • If any markings or mutations that use blood color are present, use any color (base, marking, mutation) present on the Ixi. Their blood is ectoplasm.
Ghost can optionally do the following:
  • A ghost can have a base coat of any color!
  • Bones (as seen in Translucent/Partial Translucence) can be used freely!
  • Since this makes Translucent/Partial Translucence something that doesn't really have its own appearance on Ghosts, it can be a carrier (just appear in the geno/pheno whether or not the bones are visible), or the Ghost can display Fogshard and/or Albinism (Translucent)/Fogshard and/or Bicolor (Partial Translucence). This would usually require a Mutation Station, but it's free for these two mutations for Ghosts.

While imports should still not require a Mature filter, you can feel more free with your edits to depict injuries that would be fatal so long as they aren't too graphic - these are Ghosts, after all.

Examples:

Rixixi Ghost 2 by magmatixi
Dullahan + Ghost can replace "missing" parts with bones. All parts of the body, except the torso, can be removed and replaced with bones - this overrides Dullahan's usual restriction of requiring that 75% of the body remains on the import.

Rixixi Ghost 1 by magmatixi
Phenotype: Daggerstabbed Tan Glacier with Hood and Gradient
Mutations: Feathered Wings, Ghost

Gradient applies a fade of the original base coat of Glacier to the Ghost base!

Feathered Wings (+FtWing) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Large, feathered wings on the back. Can allow flight if the Ixi is strong enough.

  • Wings are considered an extra appendage and markings in-range can spread to them. Markings that cover points can treat wings as if they were another limb.

Combining Wing Types

If you have multiple wing types on a geno, you're allowed to have a pair of both of them display without having Archangel present.

Feathered Wings is a combination mutation:
Feathered Wings has a 20% chance of passing when both Wing Arms and Vestigial Wings (or Feathered Wings itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Wing Arms or Vestigial Wings can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Wings (+Wing) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Large, bat-like wings. Can allow flight if the Ixi is strong enough.

  • Wings are considered an extra appendage and markings in-range can spread to them. Markings that cover points can treat wings as if they were another limb.

Wings with webbing have specific rules:

  • The webbing itself is considered a skin zone, and can be any color lighter or darker than the base coat, can be any marking color on the Rixixi, can be any natural skin tone color, or can be any color on the base coat swatch.
  • The opacity of the webbing can be freely altered as long as it is still clearly visible.
  • Markings can still spread to the webbing, but need to be present on the body somewhere - they cannot only appear on the skin unless the marking specifically says otherwise (eg. Flourish).

Light blue: Markings must appear somewhere here.
Medium blue: Markings can appear somewhere here, as long as they also appear in the light blue zone.

Combining Wing Types

If you have multiple wing types on a geno, you're allowed to have a pair of both of them display without having Archangel present.

Wings is a combination mutation:
Wings has a 20% chance of passing when two instances of Vestigial Wings (or Wings itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
It can also be passed naturally at its usual rate by Primals.
If a Mutation Station is used, Vestigial Wings can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno.

Partial Translucence (+ParTluc) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Bicolor appears as usual, except that the white fur is over translucent skin. Translucent mutation appears only over bicolor mutation.

Funerary Rixixi have Partial Translucence by default. This should always be visible unless replaced by Translucence or Ghost. It can be edited - moved, increased, reduced, etc - as long as it still covers 30-80% of the body.

Much like Bicolor, Partial Translucence appears in patches that cover parts of the Rixixi, but instead of white patches, the skin and fur are translucent. Markings can show on top of the translucent patches, as long as the patches are still clearly translucent.

Unlike Bicolor, Partial Translucence can cover a bit less of the body if desired - anywhere between 30%-80% of the Ixi's body should be covered by Partial Translucence.

Partial Translucence patches have about the same rules as Translucent itself, but localized to the patches:

  • The Ixi should have translucent skin, with their internal structure visible in some way - musculature, bones, blood color tinting the translucent patches, etc.
  • While internal organs can show in Partial Translucence please don't make them extremely graphic and gory - something one might find in an anatomical model is fine! Something extremely veiny or necrotic is best saved for your own art. We'd rather not use the mature filter on the masterlist if we can help it.
  • Unless altered by a mutation, flesh/organ colors should be within reasonable flesh/organ colors, and bones should be believable as a bone color (discoloration is absolutely allowed, paint would have to be applied via cosmetics, etc. - I'm not going to ask how you got paint inside your body, I'm assuming surgery.)

Corona 0077's translucence and chimera layers, to show an example of how Partial Translucence works:

Corona's translucence is a 50% opacity white layer that's vaguely cloudy and blended in parts. This is overtop the bone layer (bone layer is 82% opacity), which in turn is over a 100% opacity layer of their red blood color that blends out to translucent at the edge. All of this is over a base coat layer.

Optional design packs for adding a skeleton:
Translucent Design Pack #1 (Standard)
Translucent Design Pack #2 (Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #3 (Domestic)
Translucent Design Pack #5 (Dwarf Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #4 (Dragon Body Standard)
Translucent Design Pack #4.2 (Dragon Body Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #4.3 (Dragon Body Domestic)

Partial Translucence is a combination mutation:
Partial Translucence has a 20% chance of passing when both Bicolor and Fogshard (or Partial Translucence itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
It can also be passed naturally at a common or uncommon rate by Domestics.
It can also be passed naturally at its usual rate by Funeraries.

If a Mutation Station is used, Bicolor or Fogshard can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Translucent (+Tluc) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Most of the Rixixi's body is translucent, showing the internal organs and bone structure. The original base coat and markings should still be visible, but should be translucent or tinted with the Ixi's blood color.

  • The Ixi should have translucent skin, with their internal structure visible in some way - musculature, bones, blood color tinting the entire design, etc.
  • Turning the entire Ixi's translucence down and putting an Ixi-shaped layer of their blood color beneath them is generally a good way to tint the whole design!
  • While internal organs can show in Translucent, please don't make them extremely graphic and gory - something one might find in an anatomical model is fine!

Optional design packs for adding a skeleton:
Translucent Design Pack #1 (Standard)
Translucent Design Pack #2 (Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #3 (Domestic)
Translucent Design Pack #5 (Dwarf Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #4 (Dragon Body Standard)
Translucent Design Pack #4.2 (Dragon Body Primal)
Translucent Design Pack #4.3 (Dragon Body Domestic)

Translucent is a combination mutation:
Translucent has a 20% chance of passing when both Albinism and Fogshard (or Translucent itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
It can also be passed naturally at a common or uncommon rate by Domestics.
If a Mutation Station is used, Albinism or Fogshard can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Shield Wings (+ShlWing) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A protective covering over the Rixixi's wings. Usually beetle- or turtle- like.

  • The shell of Shield Wings can use any of the following colors:
    • Lighter or Darker than the base color (or the base color itself)
    • Any Base Coat Color
  • Shield Wings can have shading and shine, but requires the Iridescent gene to have multicolored iridescence. Markings can extend to it, much like with other wing types.
  • If Shield Wings is present with another wing type, you can make a custom "shield" such as one that resembles beetle eltyra, a turtle shell, or Fantasy variants of either of those (eg: something like the Primal Shield Wings base, mountainous/island-like turtle shells, etched or fae-like beetle shells, etc)

  • Other wing covers (eg. crystalline, rocky, eggshell, Literal Shields that aren't turtle-like or beetle-like, etc.) are allowed!
  • Custom Shield Wings should still appear on the back of other wing types - if no other wings are present, vestigial wings can be shown if the shield wings are open.
  • The wing under Shield Wings appears as normal.

Combining Wing Types

If you have multiple wing types on a geno, you're allowed to have a pair of both of them display without having Archangel present.

Shield Wings is a combination mutation:
Shield Wings has a 20% chance of passing when both Insect Wings and Shell (or Shield Wings itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Insect Wings or Shell can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Ray (+Ray) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A cape of wing-like fins, cephalic fins around the mouth, and a few spines on the tail. Displaced vents on the chest complete the psuedo-ray look.

  • Markings in the area can extend to this mutation. The Ray 'mantle' can count as additional limbs for markings that affect points.
  • The chest vents can be any legal flesh or skin color for the Rixixi, or can show the Rixixi's blood color on part or all of the mutation if desired - by default, Rixixi blood is red, but it can be modified by certain markings and mutations.

Ray is a combination mutation:
Ray has a 20% chance of passing when both Tail Spike and Vestigial Wings (or Ray itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Vestigial Wings or Tail Spike can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Deep Sea (+DpSea) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Fins grow on the body. Gills are present and follow their original mutation's rules.

  • Markings in the area can extend to this mutation.
  • The opacity of this mutation can be freely altered as long as the mutation is still clearly visible.
  • The Gills can take on the color of any base coat or any marking found on the Rixixi.

Deep Sea is a combination mutation:
Deep Sea has a 20% chance of passing when both Gills and Vestigial Wings (or Deep Sea itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Vestigial Wings or Gills can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Centaur (+Taur) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Instead of the traditional body build, the Ixi has an upright upper body and a quadrupedal lower body, leading to at least six limbs overall.

  • Due to their larger body, Centaurs can weigh up to 200lbs more than other Rixixi of their type, regardless of subspecies.
  • Markings in the area can extend to this mutation.
  • Marking ranges roughly mirror the main body, and lenience is given here due to a lack of actual ranges - markings on the back of the main body can show up on the back of Centaur, markings on the underbelly show up on the underbelly of Centaur, markings on the original limbs' range can show on the extra pair of limbs, and so on.

Centaur is a combination mutation:
Centaur has a 20% chance of passing when two instances of Sleipnir (or Centaur itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Sleipnir can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno.

Lykoi (+Lyk) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A shaggy werewolf-esque pal.

Lykoi Rixixi have a shaggy coat of fur that gives way to thin and bald patches. Their bald spots have the same rules as Sphynx, but localized to those bald patches:

  • Any legal skin tone may be used - this includes natural mammal skin tones (including chow blue), lighter/darker than base, or any color found in their markings.
  • If using a skin color instead of a regular base coat color: Lighter/Darker than base markings can use the skin color or the base coat.
  • As skin can legally have spotting on it: Some minor spotting is legal anywhere on the bald patches, but it's best to keep it from being too extensive - consider it several instances of the free mark Birthmark, not to be confused with Inkblot.
  • Flourish can display anywhere on the bald patches.
  • Lava Lamp does not need to appear translucent.

As the rest of Lykoi is intended to be shaggy and thin, it's legal to show the skin color through the fur without albinism, bicolor, forgeblood, or similar mutations! Lykoi also has a more extensive 'thin fur' section (really, anywhere on the underside and tail is fair game) and you're free to be patchy and asymmetrical about it.

Lykoi's bases can be found here:
Standard Lykoi
Primal Lykoi
Domestic Lykoi
Funerary Lykoi
Dwarf Primal Lykoi

Lykoi is a combination mutation:
Lykoi has a 20% chance of passing when both Sphynx and Long Fur (or Lykoi itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.

ONLY ONE UNCOMMON- OR COMBINATION- RARITY FUR LENGTH MUTATION CAN DISPLAY AT ONCE! (Common rarity fur length mutations display on part of the body instead of the full body.)
Most Fur Length mutations cover the full body and cannot naturally combine (without being a combination mutation). If a Rixixi carries two (or more), they can display one and carry the other.

Mumbling (+Mymb) (Combination)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

This Rixixi has Mymber genes from somewhere in their lineage...

Found in the Mymber Pack: Standard | Primal | Domestic

  • Mymber limbs can retract. As a result, Mumbling Ixi have strange biology that allow them to partially retract their second and third pairs of limbs. A base for retracted limbs is provided, as well as fully extended limbs based on the Separated Sleipnir base - you can use either, and if you really want, you can design both versions for your Ixi and link one in the bio.
  • Markings in the area can extend to this mutation. The extra limbs, whether retracted or not, can count as additional limbs for markings that affect points.
  • The mouth roots can be any legal flesh or skin color for the Rixixi, or can show the Rixixi's blood color on part or all of the mutation if desired - by default, Rixixi blood is red, but it can be modified by certain markings and mutations.

Mumbling is a combination mutation:
Mumbling has a 20% chance of passing when both Tendrils and Sleipnir (or Mumbling itself) are present in the breeding. Combination Mutations do not automatically pass if both mutations that make it up make it onto a Rixixi.
If a Mutation Station is used, Tendrils or Sleipnir can present visibly on the design without being present in the geno - one Mutation Station is required per mutation.

Blur (nBlr/BlrBlr) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Blur modifies a hard-edged marking on the Rixixi, causing it to be soft-edged.

  • Blur alters any hard-edged marking on the Rixixi to be soft-edged. Blurred markings can go very slightly out of range due to being blended out of the range.
  • If Blur is the only marking on the Rixixi (or if the only other markings are soft-edged), then Blur will not visibly appear on the design.
  • Recessive Blur can modify the edge of one marking, while Dominant Blur can modify the edge of multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Examples:

Blur used on Skunk, which also has Lunar effecting it.

Whiskers (Free Marking)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Visible whiskers on the muzzle and/or forehead. Can be black, white, or any color present on the Rixixi.

Whiskers are a bit different than other free markings due to being a physical feature that can be drawn on if desired!

Whiskers can be black, white, or any color found on the Rixixi. Off-black and off-white are perfectly fine!
Rixixi Whiskers 5 by magmatixi Rixixi Whiskers 2 by magmatixi Rixixi Whiskers 4 by magmatixi
Whiskers should not be much longer than the head. There isn't a strict maximum, but the muzzle whiskers on the Primal example above is slightly longer than the head, and could be used as a reference for where to stop.

Gradients are allowed:
Rixixi Whiskers 1 by magmatixi

As is stylizing the whiskers in a more cartoonish fashion, such as making them "float" off the face, so long as they're obviously whiskers and follow the above rules.
Rixixi Whiskers 3 by magmatixi

Caldera (nCal/CalCal) (Rare)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A hole in the Rixixi's genes and markings, displaying magma. Dominant Caldera can alter markings that touch it by changing their color to the color of magma, either in a gradient or the entire marking.

  • Caldera displays over every marking, and optionally can display over color mutations and minimal white.
  • Caldera should be a circle or oval, though the edges can optionally be warped and dripping. The edges can have a dripping effect without the use of Droplets. The color should match magma or lava, and can contain things like stone encircling the marking.
  • Dominant Caldera can alter markings that touch it by changing their color to that of the crystals within it, either in a gradient or the entire marking. Dominant Caldera optionally can alter color mutations.
  • There should only be one Caldera marking on a Rixixi. There can optionally be two if located on limbs - if this option is taken, the markings should appear on the same pair of limbs (arms, back legs, sleipnir arms, wings, etc.).
  • Caldera can have hard or textured edges. The main marking itself should not be blended out or soft (though, as previously mentioned, Dom Caldera can have a blended gradient effect that affects other markings)
  • Caldera may glow. This may not affect skin, but it may affect the markings altered by Caldera's color.

Examples:

Stamped (nStp/StpStp) (Common)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Causes simple shapes to appear on the body, lighter or darker than the base coat.

  • Stamped causes simple shapes to appear. There are some restrictions on these shapes - both due to previously-existing genes, and to keep the gene properly shaped and simple. These will be listed a bit later in the guide.
  • Stamped should be lighter or darker than the base coat.
  • It can be hard-edged or lightly textured. It should not be soft-edged or heavily textured.
  • It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.
  • The shape can repeat, but it should be the same shape throughout the design. It can be solid or hollowed out, and you can use both of these presentations in the same design.

Shape restrictions:

The following shapes are not allowed:

  • Quadrilaterals - Squares, rectangles, diamonds, and the like. These can be made with the Squared gene.
  • Pentagons, Octagons, Hexagons, or similar shapes. These can be made with the Hexagon gene.
  • Shapes that are solely made up of lines. (This does not mean shapes that are hollowed out - those are fine, and in fact, are an important part of this ruling!) A shape used for Stamped should be thick enough to hollow out.

Additionally, shapes should not be overly complex:

This fleur-de-lis is considered too complex. Each piece parses as a separate, unique shape of its own due to the spacing of the sides and the shape/distance of the bud from the rest of the shape.

This fleur-de-lis can be considered the maximum complexity for stamped. The shape is nice and compact and parses as a unified shape. The bud flows into everything else.

Examples:

Raptor (nRpt/RptRpt) (Common)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Hawk-like barring on the underbelly. Can be accompanied by a lighter-than-base patch behind it.

Range:

Rixixi Raptor by magmatixiRixixi Primal Raptor by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Raptor by magmatixiRixixi Funerary Raptor by magmatixiRixixi Dwarf Primal Raptor by magmatixi

  • Raptor should appear similar to the barring on the chest of any sort of hawk. Reference image is appreciated but only required for unusual and lesser-known hawks.
  • The edge should generally be hard, unless the reference hawk is different (please provide reference hawk in design approvals if not hard-edged)
  • Raptor barring should be darker than the base coat.
  • A patch - either lighter-than-base or a light tan - is optionally allowed under the barring. It has no restriction on hardness, and additionally may have feather-like texturing at the edges. This has the same range as the barring.

Examples:

Vest (nVes/VesVes) (Common)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A patch of color located on the upper torso of the Rixixi.

Range:

Rixixi Vest by magmatixiRixixi Primal Vest by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Hood by magmatixiRixixi Funerary Vest by magmatixiRixixi Dwarf Primal Vest by magmatixi

  • Vest may be any color, and may display up to two colors within the marking, which may be blended together.
  • Vest does not have a restriction on edge hardness.

Examples:

Boar (nBoa/BoaBoa) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Dark stripes going down the side from eye to tail, with light stripes within them.

  • Boar must flow in the direction of eye to tail. It does not have to touch the eye or the tail, this is simply the direction it must flow. Boar can start and stop anywhere on the side, but each stripe should consist of a single unbroken line, not multiple bars in a row.
  • You can have as many Boar stripes as you want from back to underbelly, and as many as you want going down the legs.
  • Boar stripes consist of an inner and outer stripe. The outer stripe is darker than the base coat, and the inner stripe is lighter than the base coat (and should be fully within the darker stripe).
  • Edge may be hard, textured, or somewhat soft. It should not be fully blended out.

Examples:

Sprinkles (nSpk/SpkSpk) (Common)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Tick marks in any color - up to three colors - flecked around the Ixi's coat.

  • Sprinkles can be any color, and may be up to three different colors. These can be separate colors on separate tick marks, or gradiented together.
  • It should always present as small tick marks clustered together, whether in portions of the coat or covering the full body. It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.
  • It is typically hard or lightly soft-edged.
  • It can also cause barring at the limbs, tail, neck, and face - as seen on some cats, particularly the Singapura.

Examples:

Glitz (nGtz/GtzGtz) (Rare)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

The Ixi presents with naturally glittering fur. Glitz can either present on up to 70% of the Ixi's body on its own, or restrict to any one marking. Dominant Glitz can restrict to multiple markings.

  • Glitz can appear across the entire body of the Ixi like an iridescent effect, or cause any marking to become glittering. Dominant Glitz can affect multiple markings.
  • While it isn't quite an edge hardness rule, Glitz should fade out at the edges and become less dense.
  • Glitz should have a shine to it, and this shine should follow a chosen light source like iridescence would. The glitter should become darker and flatter the further away from the light it is.
  • Glitz can be any color, and generally multiple colors are required to make the effect work.
  • Color-modifying genes (eg. Horizon, Glitter) cannot be applied to Glitz (sorry for the lack of glitter glitz), and it will override genes that change all colors on the Rixixi like Prismpitch. However, it will need to appear pastel on Albinism if it is made visible.

Unlike most Rixixi genes, a glitter brush is likely necessary to make Glitz. You will probably get a repetitive motion injury doing it manually. Here are some brushes you can use, if your preferred program isn't listed here or you have a brush you think is useful to know about, let us know!

If you're not familiar making glitter, or you need a refresher, a lovely tutorial can be found here!
