Traits

Chain (nChn/ChnChn) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A dark, hard-edged marking of connected, geometric hollow blobs.

  • Chain must be darker than the base coat. It is typically hard-edged.
  • Chain is made up of semi-random hollow geometric markings, more rounded and random than what would be found in the Hexagon marking. They should connect together, whether by more geometric markings or by lines. These should be similar to the markings found on the Chain Catfish.
  • If an Ixi has both Chain and a spot marking, such as Inkblot, Cowspot, or Koi, the spot marking can fill in the Chain marking, regardless of the size requirements of the original spot marking.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.

Examples:

Boar (nBoa/BoaBoa) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Dark stripes going down the side from eye to tail, with light stripes within them.

  • Boar must flow in the direction of eye to tail. It does not have to touch the eye or the tail, this is simply the direction it must flow. Boar can start and stop anywhere on the side, but each stripe should consist of a single unbroken line, not multiple bars in a row.
  • You can have as many Boar stripes as you want from back to underbelly, and as many as you want going down the legs.
  • Boar stripes consist of an inner and outer stripe. The outer stripe is darker than the base coat, and the inner stripe is lighter than the base coat (and should be fully within the darker stripe).
  • Edge may be hard, textured, or somewhat soft. It should not be fully blended out.

Examples:

Brindle (nBr/BrBr) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Thin stripes that can appear all over the body. Both lighter and darker than the base coat.

  • Brindle appears similar to the marking of the same name in dogs and horses. It can appear as realistically as you like, with blotches of heavier striping and texturing, or it can simply be thin striping, thinner and more even than Tabby.
  • Brindle can be both darker than AND lighter than the base coat. This is optional. It can also be only darker than OR lighter than the base coat if desired. If appearing as both colors and affected by a marking like Glitter or Lunar, two tones are allowed.
  • It is typically hard- or textured-edged. It should not be blended out, but can be somewhat soft-edged.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.

Examples:

Glaze (nGlz/GlzGlz) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Modifies any one marking of the Rixixi to have an iridescent sheen. If no other marking exists on the Rixixi, Glaze can create a pseudo-Sable or Cloak marking on the back of the Rixixi with an iridescent sheen. Dominant Glaze can modify multiple markings.

  • Glaze alters only the sheen of a marking. The modified marking should still have the same edge hardness and shape.
  • The color of lighter/darker than base markings can be altered by Glaze to be an analagous hue.
  • If Glaze is the only marking on the Rixixi, then Glaze can create either a Sable or Cloak-style back marking, with an iridescent sheen.
  • Recessive Glaze can modify the sheen of one marking, while Dominant Glaze can modify multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Examples:

Affecting  Cloak - Droplets also affecting Cloak.

Erosion (nEr/ErEr) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Erosion modifies a marking on the Rixixi, causing it to have a mottled texture to the edge

  • Erosion alters any single marking on the Rixixi, causing the texture of the marking to be mottled and speckled. Speckles should be tiny, like the snowflake marking. Eroded markings can go very slightly out of range due to being textured out of the range.
  • If Erosion is the only marking on the Rixixi, then Erosion will not visibly appear on the design. Alternately, it can be used on free marks.
  • Recessive Erosion can modify the edge of one marking, while Dominant Erosion can modify the edge of multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Examples:

Erosion used on Pangare

Waterlight (nWat/WatWat) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A marking like light shimmering through water. Can be line-like ripples or large blobs of light.

Range:

Rixixi Sable by magmatixiRixixi Primal Sable by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Sable by magmatixi

  • Must be lighter than the base coat.
  • Should be soft-edged.
  • Waterlight can present as either large blobs of light (The Lanternlighter shows this presentation) or lines representing ripples in water - sort of like an outline of the former version. Both should be soft-edged and lighter than base.

Examples:

Xanadu (nXan/XanXan) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A stripe along the back. Can be any color.

Range:

  • Xanadu is a marking similar to the stripe on an orca's back. It can continue down the tail, and can optionally have various swirls, curves, and/or sharp edges at the tips.
  • Xanadu may be any color, and may display up to two colors within the marking, which may be blended together.
  • The edge of Xanadu should be soft.

Examples:

Blur (nBlr/BlrBlr) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Blur modifies a hard-edged marking on the Rixixi, causing it to be soft-edged.

  • Blur alters any hard-edged marking on the Rixixi to be soft-edged. Blurred markings can go very slightly out of range due to being blended out of the range.
  • If Blur is the only marking on the Rixixi (or if the only other markings are soft-edged), then Blur will not visibly appear on the design.
  • Recessive Blur can modify the edge of one marking, while Dominant Blur can modify the edge of multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Examples:

Blur used on Skunk, which also has Lunar effecting it.

Blaze (nBlz/BlzBlz) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Blaze can be any color and covers half of the body, traveling from the face to the midpoint of the body, or from the tailtip to the midpoint of the body. Can be two-toned.

  • Blaze can be any color, and may display up to two colors within the marking, which may optionally be blended together. Blaze may have patterns within itself, as long as it does not appear to be modified by another marking, such as Painted or Lunar.
  • Blaze has no restriction on edge hardness. It can have cutouts in the marking.
  • Blaze should cover at least 25% of the Rixixi. If originating at the face, it must cover the full face. If originating at the tail, it must cover the full tailtip.
  • Blaze must stop at the middle of the Rixixi, giving it a maximum of 50%.
  • Blaze can resemble Gradient without issue.

Examples:

Windstorm (nWind/WindWind) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Cloud shapes - realistic or stylized - appear on the body, in shades lighter and/or darker than the base coat. Can also optionally have one accent color - accent color can be any color at all.

  • Windstorm must be some type of cloud shape - whether realistic or stylized, and what type of cloud, is up to the designer, so long as it registers as a cloud.
  • The shape may be made up of shades lighter and/or darker than the base coat. There is no limit to how many shades may be included as long as they follow this rule.
  • It may also optionally include one accent color. This may be any color, but only one.
  • There is no edge hardness restriction for Windstorm so long as the overall shape can be easily read.

Thunderstruck (nTnd/TndTnd) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
White mark that appears in patches and branches out in "lightning"-like patterns.

  • Must be white or a very pale off-white.
  • Should be hard or textured-edged, must have a branching effect at the edges - subtle/small branching is allowed so long as it's there!
  • At maximum, can appear on approximately 40% of the Rixixi, give or take (lenience is given in the case of large mutations on the body!), there is no minimum, but it must appear on the body visibly!
  • Thunderstruck should display over most other markings.
  • There can be a subtle, soft-edged halo on the edge of the marking, either off-white or lighter than the base coat. This is optional and is a design choice you can make if it would make Thunderstruck blend into the design better!

Examples:

Old Dog 0124 by magmatixi

Tabby (nTab/TabTab) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Tabby cat-like stripes all over the Ixi's body. Can take various different shapes.

Domestic Rixixi can use Tabby as a free marking, but it won't show in their genotype, and passes from Domestics to other subspecies at a recessive rate even if it's not visible.

  • Tabby must be darker than the base coat. It may have a gradient, but it must be within a similar hue, not heavily two-toned.
  • It is typically hard- or textured-edged. It should not be blended out, but can be somewhat soft-edged.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.
  • Tabby Point and Spotted Tabby are okay to use!
  • If using a Spotted Tabby pattern, to look like a variant of tabby rather than other markings, make sure to include some solid unbroken stripes, and have your broken/spotted stripes lined up in noticeable stripe patterns!

Range:

Rixixi Spectacled by magmatixiRixixi Primal Spectacled by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Spectacled by magmatixi

  • Must be lighter than base coat, or a light shade of tan.
  • Edges should be hard or textured-edged.
  • It should appear similar to the markings of a spectacled bear.

Maltese (+Malt) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
Presents as a desaturated base coat with grey-blue (and sometimes desaturated ginger) markings.

Maltese desaturates the original base coat - this should mostly be just an alteration to the saturation, like Fog, but the value can be altered to be somewhat lighter or darker than usual as well.

Markings on Maltese can be lighter or darker than base, or use any of the following sliders:

Maltese-specific sliders
Latte and Steel base coats

Markings that can be any color, any base coat, and so on can be saturated gingers and blues.

Additionally:
  • Maltese does not have to have an effect on skin and eye color.
  • Like Fog, the only bases that can appear completely desaturated (with no tint) with Fog are Arctic, Steel, and Midnight.

Presentation with Contradicting Mutations:

Maltese and Erythrism:

When Maltese and Erythrism are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-One mutation presents visibly, and one is a genetic carrier only. (At least one mutation has to present visibly in this case.)

-The mutations present together as a dilute ginger.

Maltese and Neon:

When Neon and Maltese are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-One mutation presents visibly, and one is a genetic carrier only. (At least one mutation has to present visibly in this case.)

-Base coat is neon while markings are altered by Maltese

-Base is Maltese while markings are neon

-Base is maltese, markings are neon blues and gingers

Neon (+Neo) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
The Rixixi's pelt is extremely, unnaturally saturated. In some cases, this can even affect markings.

Neon does not have specific swatches, instead, it should take the original base coat and increase the saturation and value until it becomes a hypersaturated neon color.

This can cause some fairly unexpected colors:

Rixixi Neon Midnight by magmatixi
Midnight, top swatch

Markings can appear as normal (with markings lighter or darker than base appearing lighter or darker than the altered swatch):

Skyburn with Labyrinth and Pangare

Or as bright, neon shades themselves - if this method is chosen, neon markings should be colors analagous to the altered base on the color wheel.

Additionally:
  • Neon does not have to affect skin tone.
  • Neon has no effect on eye color.

Presentation with Contradicting Mutations:

Neon and Fog:

Neon and Fog presenting together cancel out Fog's skin/marking color requirements.

When Neon and Fog are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-One mutation presents visibly, and one is a genetic carrier only. (At least one mutation has to present visibly in this case.)

-Neon presents less saturated than average:
Rixixi Fog Neon 2 by magmatixi
Lilac base.

-Fog presents brighter than average:
Rixixi Fog Neon 1 by magmatixi
Lilac base.

-Both Neon and Fog appear, in cloudy patches:
Rixixi Fog Neon 3 by magmatixi
Lilac base.

The edges of this must be soft and blended so as to not be confused for Tortoiseshell, Chimera, or other similar markings/mutations.

Examples:

Almel 0098 by magmatixi
Almel is an example of Albinism and Melanism, but this is still a good example of the cloudy blending method in shape.

Neon and Erythrism:

Neon and Erythrism presenting together cancel out Neon's requirements to be fullbody and allow it to affect markings along with Erythrism.

When Neon and Erythrism are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-One mutation presents visibly, and one is a genetic carrier only. (At least one mutation has to present visibly in this case.)

-Neon magenta becomes legal for Erythrism:

Leucism (+Leuc) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

Can display in one of two ways: The entire Rixixi takes on a light cream color, with the markings still visible, OR a light cream color modifies as many markings as the designer desires.

Leucism, much like Albinism, can modify the entire base coat to a pale color. Unlike Albinism, however, Leucism is locked to a color range that includes pale cream colors. There is no slider, but here are some examples of acceptable colors:

Alternately, the base coat can appear as normal, and Leucism can affect any number of markings that the designer chooses:
Rixixi Leucism Marks by magmatixi
Rose with Sable, Tabby, and Inkblots - Leucism affecting Tabby and Inkblots, Sable appearing as normal.

Additionally:

  • Unlike Albinism, Leucism does not have an effect on the eye color of an Ixi.
  • When affecting the base coat, Leucism often, but does not have to, affect the skin tone as well.

Fog (+Fog) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
The Rixixi's pelt is heavily desaturated. Skin and markings also take on a duller tone.

Fog does not have specific swatches, instead, it should take the original base coat and lower the saturation anywhere between heavily and very noticeably. The value, brightness, and hue should not be altered much if at all, but can be slightly modified to improve the final result of the color.

Plum - Skyburn - Seaglass - Steel

Additionally:
  • Markings should also be desaturated - Markings that are lighter or darker than base should be lighter or darker than the altered base, markings that appear as any base should appear as a desaturated base, and markings that appear as any color should appear as duller colors.
  • The only bases that can appear completely desaturated (with no tint) with Fog are Arctic, Steel, and Midnight.
  • Fog desaturates the skin tone as well.
  • Fog has no effect on eye color.

The edges of this must be soft and blended so as to not be confused for Tortoiseshell, Chimera, or other similar markings/mutations.

Examples:

Almel 0098 by magmatixi
Almel is an example of Albinism and Melanism, but this is still a good example of the cloudy blending method in shape.

Bicolor (+Bi) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
Assorted white markings like Piebald and Tobiano. Appears over all other markings.

Bicolor must be white or a very pale off-white. As a color mutation, Bicolor is far stricter on color modifiers than white markings like Thunderstruck, disallowing any bright colors even when modifiers are present. However, as a color mutation that doesn't cover the entire body, it acts as a marking in some cases (mostly involving its shape) - as such, modifiers like Bloom and Penumbra can modify it.

Bicolor should appear anywhere between roughly 40% - 80% of the Rixixi:
Roughly 40%, Roughly 80% (random spots), and Roughly 80% (Van Pattern)

It can look like any kind of genetic white marking existing in animals that fit the marking size - Bicolor markings of course, but also horse markings such as any size-fitting Pinto, Appaloosa, and Sabino, assorted canine white markings like Irish Spotting and ticking on white, and even things like Zebra markings - the list goes on, this mutation is meant as a catchall.

Additionally:
  • Showing pale skin tone peeking through areas of thin fur is legal!
  • Bicolor does not have an effect on the eye or skin color of an Ixi.
  • Bicolor appears over all markings unless otherwise specified by the marking itself (eg. Skypunch).

Albinism (+Al) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

A complete lack of pigment in the rixixi. Albinistic Ixi appear as nearly pure-white, markings can show faintly as extremely pale shades of the original base coat. Brightly-colored markings like Lunar and Bioluminescence can be somewhat brighter and more saturated, but should remain light in color. Skin and frills should be pale, and eyes are most commonly shades of pale blues, lavenders, reds, and even white.

Albinism can be pure white, with any amount of markings hidden or showing:
Rixixi Albinism Full by magmatixi

Or it can be a tint of the base coat - markings can be hidden via this form of albinism as well. (It is a big help if you let us know in design approval if you've done so!) Albinism must always be extremely pale, no matter what the original base coat is.
Rixixi Albinism Midnight by magmatixi
Midnight base.

Markings that show as lighter or darker than the base coat should be subtle and pale.
Rixixi Albinism Laser by magmatixi
Laser base with Sable.

Markings that can be any color may be bright, but should still be light colors, and should not be neons.
Rixixi Albinism Latte by magmatixi
Latte base with Accents, Lunar, and Daggerstabbed.

Additionally:

  • Showing skin tone peeking through areas of thin fur is legal!
  • Skin should generally be pale, but can still take on marking colors and the like as per normal skin/frill/nails rules.
  • Eyes should be shades of pale purples, blues, pale colors light enough to be considered white or off-white, and assorted reds.

Presentation with Contradicting Mutations:

Albinism and Melanism:

Albinism and Melanism presenting together cancel out Albinism's skin/eye/marking color requirements.

When Albinism and Melanism are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

Chimera (+Chi) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

Also known as Harlequin

The rixixi displays two genomes at once, can be in random patches or split down the middle in a harlequin "checkerboard" pattern.

FRIED MEME is a Diver/Plum chimera. She also has Lunar (in neon green) and Horizon (in dark green) - she's very colorful.

Chimera Rixixi have two sets of genes displayed in patches across their body. Chimera can have a defined pattern (see real-world Harlequin animals) or random blotches of color with or without a pattern.

Additionally:

  • Chimera doesn't have a specific required amount of each geno that you have to present. If most of the genes on each geno are visible, you're probably fine! 30% or more of the less visible side is also a fair test. As long as both sides of the genotype are reasonably visible, it should look enough like Chimera.
  • You can cover up a gene on one side by putting a spot of the other side on top of it (eg, hide Daggerstabbed by putting a splotch over the chest).
  • If you have a chimera with two sides of the same base coat (eg Brimstone/Brimstone chimera), you do have to differentiate the two sides' base coats enough that they can be told apart on sight.

COMBINATION MUTATIONS & CHIMERA

If your Ixi has a combination mutation and Chimera, they can display the component parts of that Combination Mutation without needing a Mutation Station.

Corona, having Chimera as well as Partial Translucence, visually displays Fogshard.

How Breeding with Chimeras Works:

Chimeras roll in breedings as if their two genos combined into one. If they have two of the same gene, it won't combine into a dominant gene, but if they have two of the same gene (and one happens to be dominant), the dominant gene is used.

For example, here's a theoretical chimera:

Aa/Bb/dd/oo/nPr/nTab/nGlt/nLu/PanPan/nPng/nHz // aa/BB/dd/Oo/nSpc/nTab/LuLu/nClk

Lunar Plum with Procyonid, Tabby, Glitter, Panda, Pangare, and Horizon // Lunar Spectacled Seaglass with Tabby and Cloak

When breeding, it rolls as if this is its genotype:

Aa/BB/dd/Oo/nPr/nTab/nGlt/LuLu/PanPan/nPng/nHz/nSpc/nClk

Lunar Spectacled Diver with Procyonid, Tabby, Glitter, Panda, Pangare, Horizon, and Cloak
