Traits

Iridescence (nIri/IriIri) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A colorful sheen over the Ixi.

  • Iridescence can appear layered over the base coat and markings, and appears as an overlay of color over part of the body.
  • A way to achieve this look is to add an overlay layer blended out over part of the body. This should be fully blended out, and there should be an area where the actual base color shows through.
  • There can be a slight "shine" to Iridescence, but it should be subtle and not cover markings.

Jack O'Lantern (nJol/JolJol) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A limited-range bioluminescent marking that typically presents in an inorganic pattern. Kind of like a genetic, glowing tattoo.

  • Should be a bright color, with at least a subtle glow surrounding it.
  • The marking should be hard-edged, though the glow should be blended out.
  • At maximum, can appear on approximately 20% of the Rixixi, give or take (lenience is given in the case of large mutations on the body!), there is no minimum, but it must appear on the body visibly!
  • Jack O'Lantern is a very variable marking, effectively making a "tattoo" that glows. It should usually be inorganic (not a natural marking), but there's a lot of lenience. As such, the Examples section also contains four shapes that would be legal (though they don't have glow, they're just there as shape examples.) - this is far from an exhaustive list of legal examples, but we wanted to have some visuals available!

Kaurphyt Lines (nKph/KphKph) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Bright stripes and swirls. Should be bright colors. Can be two colors.
  • Kaurphyt Lines can be any bright color, and may be two different colors. These two colors should be on separate stripes rather than two-toning the same stripes
  • It is typically hard or textured-edged.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should at least appear on the back and/or sides of the Rixixi. If a Wing mutation is present, Kaurphyt Lines should be present somewhere on them.
  • Kaurphyt Lines should present as stripes and swirls, primarily. Some abstract blocks of color can be present, but should be small enough so as to not mistake for Poison Dart (and should be accompanied with traditional Kaurphyt Line stripes and swirls). A couple of spots are also allowed as accents, but should be small in quantity and used as accents to the main marking.

Examples:

Kaurphyt Ravens, the namesake of the gene.

Labyrinth (nLby/LbyLby) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

A dark, hard-edged marking featuring geometric stripes, looking fairly like a 'maze'.

  • Labyrinth must be darker than the base coat. It is typically hard-edged.
  • Labyrinth features 'geometric' stripes forming a maze-like structure - bold lines, squares and hoops interlocking together. The gene is based on the markings of the Barred Sorubim and other similar Pseudoplatystoma catfish, as such, referring to them as examples may be more helpful than text descriptions.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.

Examples:

Mirror (nMir/MirMir) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Reverses color requirements on a single marking of the designer's choice - if originally darker than base, the marking can be lighter, or vice versa.

  • Reverses color requirements on a single marking - if marking is originally listed as being "darker than base", Mirror can make it so it would instead be "lighter than base", or vice versa for "lighter than base" markings.
  • For markings that are locked to a single color, such as Daggerstabbed, this can reverse the color requirement to the opposite end of the spectrum - this does not have to be a literal inversion of color in your art program, the opposite end of the color wheel is fine (eg, blue/green for unmodified Daggerstabbed).
  • This can modify color-restricted elemental mutations as well, such as creating blue Magmatic, dark Vital, or desaturated Toxic! These can be modified even if a marking is already modified!
  • Mirror does not affect markings without clearly defined color rules, or markings with "lighter or darker than base coat" color rules, or any other base coat rules with no logical opposite. Unfortunately, as a result, a Rixixi with only markings such as those, or no markings at all, can only carry Mirror and not display it (unless they choose an elemental mutation that allows Mirror modification once they reach the needed level!)
  • Mirror can invert the color of teeth if the designer desires, and this does not use up the one marking use of Recessive Mirror.
  • Recessive Mirror can modify the color of one valid marking, while Dominant Mirror can modify the color of multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Mojave (nMjv/MjvMjv) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Thick, serpentining stripes that one might see on some morphs of ball pythons. Cutouts and/or sudden keyhole-shaped curves with spots inside are allowed and recommended!

  • Mojave is based off the markings found on Mojave and Arroyo ball pythons, mainly, but as long as it's fairly recognizable as the same basic shape, it's fine!
  • Mojave must be darker than the base coat. It can have a gradient, and the gradient can be made up of two fairly different colors, as long as those colors are still darker than the base coat.
  • It is typically hard- or textured-edged. It should not be blended out, but can be somewhat soft-edged.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.

Panda (nPan/PanPan) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
Panda-like markings: darkens the base coat around the eyes, legs, ears, and a band around the chest/shoulders.

Range:

Rixixi Panda by magmatixiRixixi Primal Panda by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Panda by magmatixi

  • Should be a darker shade of base coat, or black.
  • Edges should be hard or textured.
  • Panda should visibly appear on each separate zone - limbs, chest, eyes, ears. Funerary Rixixi do not have the mandatory eye/ear range.

Penumbra (nPnum/PnumPnum) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi
A soft-edged band outlining a marking, while causing the actual marking to disappear. The outline can be any color, and may be two-toned. If no other marking exists on the Rixixi, Penumbra can create a soft-edged outline of any marking that can be hard-edged.

  • Penumbra presents as a band of color outlining any marking. The band may be any color, and may be two-toned. Penumbra should be soft- or blended-edged regardless of the original marking's edge hardness.
  • Markings modified by Penumbra are not visible other than their outline. Markings underneath them can be shown visibly, or stop at the outline as if the marking was filled in with the base coat.
  • If Penumbra is the only marking on the Rixixi (or if the only other markings modify the base coat without creating another marking, such as Gradient), then Penumbra can create the outline of any marking that can be hard-edged. It should also remain soft- or blended-edged in this case.
  • Recessive Penumbra can modify and outline one marking, while Dominant Penumbra can modify and outline multiple - as many as the designer desires.

Poison Dart (nDart/DartDart) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Abstract blocks of color, much like the markings on a poison dart frog. Can be any color, and can be two-toned.

  • Poison Dart can be any color, and may be two-toned.
  • It is typically hard-edged.
  • It has no maximum and can cover the full body if desired. It has no minimum, but should be noticeable on the design.
  • There may be cutouts in the marking, and the shape of the markings can be abstract or even somewhat geometric. Poison Dart frogs can be referenced - the marking does not have to be directly copied from a frog, as long as it brings them to mind, it should pass, but if you'd like to link a specific frog you referenced then that works as well!

Procyonid (nPr/PrPr) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Range:

Rixixi Procyonid by magmatixiRixixi Primal Procyonid by magmatixiRixixi Domestic Procyonid by magmatixi

  • Procyonid has no limits on edge hardness.
  • Should be a darker shade of the base coat, or black.
  • Procyonid should visibly appear on each separate zone - limbs, tail, eyes, ears. Funerary Rixixi do not have the mandatory eye/ear range.
  • The tail must be striped.

Rosettes (nRs/RsRs) (Uncommon)

Category: Rixixi
Species: Rixixi

Similar to a leopard, snow leopard, jaguar, clouded leopard, or other similar animal's spots.

  • Rosettes should mimic the rosette/spot pattern of the above big cats. It can also mimic non-rosette patterns from the same cats, such as the face and tail markings on Sezzeqh 0002. The design must contain spots, no matter what other markings are referenced. If mimicking non-rosettes, please make sure to link a reference. If mimicking the spots of a big cat not listed above, please link a reference.
  • The outer ring of rosettes must be darker than the base coat.
  • Rosettes can be hard-, textured-, or lightly soft-edged, but should not be fully blended out.
  • Rosettes can appear anywhere on the ixi, and commonly appears over a large portion of the body.

Ultraviolet (+UV) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
Gives the Ixi an entire second color scheme. Does not have to follow any color rules, but does have to follow the original marking shape.

  • You must supply both the original color scheme, and the altered color scheme. One must be the actual import, and one can be a sta.sh file. This can be linked near the Personality section of the import if you like.
  • While the regular import must follow color rules, the Ultraviolet version of the import does not have to follow any color rules - even the base coat can be unique.
  • The marking shape must remain the same between the two import versions, except for bioluminescent markings, which can change in shape as long as they would still be legal in range and shape.
  • If the Rixixi also has E. Porphyria (+EryPor), blood-colored areas will glow in the Ultraviolet version.
  • Ultraviolet stacks with Chameleon nCham/ChamCham - the main import and the Ultraviolet import can have their own Chameleon versions.

Examples:

Luminol 0462 by magmatixi  Luminol - UV by magmatixi
Luminol shows examples of glowing markings changing shape, and glowing bones in E. Porphyria (though xir bone glow is subtle due to its dark color). Xhe also has chameleon versions for both regular and UV versions linked on xir import.

Fog (+Fog) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
The Rixixi's pelt is heavily desaturated. Skin and markings also take on a duller tone.

Fog does not have specific swatches, instead, it should take the original base coat and lower the saturation anywhere between heavily and very noticeably. The value, brightness, and hue should not be altered much if at all, but can be slightly modified to improve the final result of the color.

Plum - Skyburn - Seaglass - Steel

Additionally:
  • Markings should also be desaturated - Markings that are lighter or darker than base should be lighter or darker than the altered base, markings that appear as any base should appear as a desaturated base, and markings that appear as any color should appear as duller colors.
  • The only bases that can appear completely desaturated (with no tint) with Fog are Arctic, Steel, and Midnight.
  • Fog desaturates the skin tone as well.
  • Fog has no effect on eye color.

Presentation with Contradicting Mutations:

Neon and Fog:

Neon and Fog presenting together cancel out Fog's skin/marking color requirements.

When Neon and Fog are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-One mutation presents visibly, and one is a genetic carrier only. (At least one mutation has to present visibly in this case.)

-Neon presents less saturated than average:
Rixixi Fog Neon 2 by magmatixi
Lilac base.

-Fog presents brighter than average:
Rixixi Fog Neon 1 by magmatixi
Lilac base.

-Both Neon and Fog appear, in cloudy patches:

The edges of this must be soft and blended so as to not be confused for Tortoiseshell, Chimera, or other similar markings/mutations.

Examples:

Almel 0098 by magmatixi
Almel is an example of Albinism and Melanism, but this is still a good example of the cloudy blending method in shape.

Neon (+Neo) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
The Rixixi's pelt is extremely, unnaturally saturated. In some cases, this can even affect markings.

Neon does not have specific swatches, instead, it should take the original base coat and increase the saturation and value until it becomes a hypersaturated neon color.

This can cause some fairly unexpected colors:

Additionally:
  • Neon does not have to affect skin tone.

Melanism (+Mel) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

A very high production of pigment, the Rixixi's coat and markings are heavily darkened.

Melanism does not have specific swatches, instead, it should be a darker version of your Rixixi's given base coat. Melanism should not be subtle, but the original base coat should still be apparent, and it should not be a false version of another base.

Maltese (+Malt) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
Presents as a desaturated base coat with grey-blue (and sometimes desaturated ginger) markings.

Maltese desaturates the original base coat - this should mostly be just an alteration to the saturation, like Fog, but the value can be altered to be somewhat lighter or darker than usual as well.

Markings on Maltese can be lighter or darker than base, or use any of the following sliders:

Maltese-specific sliders
Latte and Steel base coats

Markings that can be any color, any base coat, and so on can be saturated gingers and blues.

Additionally:
  • Maltese does not have to have an effect on skin and eye color.
  • Like Fog, the only bases that can appear completely desaturated (with no tint) with Fog are Arctic, Steel, and Midnight.

Presentation with Contradicting Mutations:

Maltese and Erythrism:

When Maltese and Erythrism are both present in a geno, any of the following approaches can be taken:

-Base coat is neon while markings are altered by Maltese

-Base is Maltese while markings are neon

-Base is maltese, markings are neon blues and gingers

Leucism (+Leuc) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

Can display in one of two ways: The entire Rixixi takes on a light cream color, with the markings still visible, OR a light cream color modifies as many markings as the designer desires.

Leucism, much like Albinism, can modify the entire base coat to a pale color. Unlike Albinism, however, Leucism is locked to a color range that includes pale cream colors. There is no slider, but here are some examples of acceptable colors:

Alternately, the base coat can appear as normal, and Leucism can affect any number of markings that the designer chooses:
Rixixi Leucism Marks by magmatixi
Rose with Sable, Tabby, and Inkblots - Leucism affecting Tabby and Inkblots, Sable appearing as normal.

Additionally:

  • Unlike Albinism, Leucism does not have an effect on the eye color of an Ixi.
  • When affecting the base coat, Leucism often, but does not have to, affect the skin tone as well.

Erythrism (+Ery) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

Can display in one of two ways: The entire Rixixi takes on a pink, red, or ginger color, with the markings still visible, OR a pink/red/ginger color modifies as many markings as the designer desires.

Erythrism is capable of modifying the entire base coat to ranges of red, pink, and assorted oranges and gingers, with the markings still appearing visibly. Markings that are darker or lighter than the base coat should be darker or lighter than the chosen base shade, and markings that can be any color or bright colors can appear as normal. There is no slider, but here are some examples of acceptable colors:

Alternately, the base coat can appear as normal, and Erythrism can affect any number of markings that the designer chooses:

Albinism (+Al) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi

A complete lack of pigment in the rixixi. Albinistic Ixi appear as nearly pure-white, markings can show faintly as extremely pale shades of the original base coat. Brightly-colored markings like Lunar and Bioluminescence can be somewhat brighter and more saturated, but should remain light in color. Skin and frills should be pale, and eyes are most commonly shades of pale blues, lavenders, reds, and even white.

Albinism can be pure white, with any amount of markings hidden or showing:
Rixixi Albinism Full by magmatixi

Or it can be a tint of the base coat - markings can be hidden via this form of albinism as well. (It is a big help if you let us know in design approval if you've done so!) Albinism must always be extremely pale, no matter what the original base coat is.
Rixixi Albinism Midnight by magmatixi

Markings that show as lighter or darker than the base coat should be subtle and pale.

Additionally:

  • Showing skin tone peeking through areas of thin fur is legal!
  • Skin should generally be pale, but can still take on marking colors and the like as per normal skin/frill/nails rules.
  • Eyes should be shades of pale purples, blues, pale colors light enough to be considered white or off-white, and assorted reds.

Bicolor (+Bi) (Uncommon)

Species: Rixixi
Assorted white markings like Piebald and Tobiano. Appears over all other markings.

Bicolor must be white or a very pale off-white. As a color mutation, Bicolor is far stricter on color modifiers than white markings like Thunderstruck, disallowing any bright colors even when modifiers are present. However, as a color mutation that doesn't cover the entire body, it acts as a marking in some cases (mostly involving its shape) - as such, modifiers like Bloom and Penumbra can modify it.

Bicolor should appear anywhere between roughly 40% - 80% of the Rixixi:
Roughly 40%, Roughly 80% (random spots), and Roughly 80% (Van Pattern)

It can look like any kind of genetic white marking existing in animals that fit the marking size - Bicolor markings of course, but also horse markings such as any size-fitting Pinto, Appaloosa, and Sabino, assorted canine white markings like Irish Spotting and ticking on white, and even things like Zebra markings - the list goes on, this mutation is meant as a catchall.

Additionally:
  • Showing pale skin tone peeking through areas of thin fur is legal!
  • Bicolor does not have an effect on the eye or skin color of an Ixi.
  • Bicolor appears over all markings unless otherwise specified by the marking itself (eg. Skypunch).
